The city of Montreal has a service where you can rent a bike for a while, be it an hour or a day. The question is should we keep it or let it blow away with the wind. Why? Because it is costing Montreal money to subsidies this service. Here is how the argument works outs. By any legal sense, accounting sense and or professional sense Bixi made a profit. This is certified by the General Accountant of Montreal under the rules of accounting in both Provincial and Federal law covering these matters. However, having said that, we then enter the details of the financial statement and see where some doubt comes from. In it, we see the city has paid some 3 million dollars to the company, counted as part of its revenue, as a donation, thus not repayable. This is clearly greater than the profit made some 1 million dollars rounded up. So therefore Bixi, without such aid did not make a profit. Please note, we have shifted the question from being one of profitability to that of long term sustainability without such assistance or taking thus public cooperation, not for profit and turning the rules of a private For Profit Company which does not get help from the government. This however is an unfair turn. The part of Bixi, the international arm of it, that is paid royalties from places like New York and London for the Bixi idea, is making vast profits. The city had to sell this part of the program as it is incompatible with the city’s charter to make a private sector profit or enter into a business arrangement. So if the two, which were once the same company, were again merged, there would be no need for the city to give a subsidy to Bixi, as it would be making a profit on its own terms, without subsidies. So there you go, half full or half empty. I leave the question to you. However, I repeat by all that is considered to be the legal standard of accounting principles, Bixi did indeed make a profit and is making a profit as certified by the Auditor General of Montreal, and would be the acceptable as a professional opinion in any Canadian court of law where their opinion asked. Changing the nature of the question then allows for the answer to be that Bixi did not make a profit. However, if we allow the change to our primary question, we must return the public and the private together, in order to make the comparison. For it is only because of the nature of the city, not allowed to own the For Profit part of Bixi that the profitable side was sold.  In other words, you cannot have it both ways; either we treat Bixi as a fully private or fully public corporation.  In the fully public side, we see now, it is profitable by the rules set up by accounting. If we turn to the private side, we cannot fight with one arm ties behind our back, or sold off to ensure that Bixi remains true to being a public trust and not making a private profit. So rejoining the two parts seem to be only fair to see if they make a profit and they do. So in either case, when regarding this question, we must look to both sides of the issue and see what is to be seen. Not merely make an assertion of no viability on financial grounds, when the ground work and history is completely ignored.

Simply put, if I cannot make the claim that yesterday was warmer than today, therefore global cooling, you cannot take one hurricane, no matter how bad and say climate change. Similarly, I cannot take one Earthquake and say the end is nigh. One event does not a pattern make. In all honesty, and that is what is lacking from both sides from the idiots in the Republican Party and the alt right, to the left wing lunatics, the bottom line is that we simply do not know very much about what is going on, if anything is going on. The world temperature seems to be heating up. But it has been doing so for 10 000 years since the last ice age. So? Is this a bad thing? Maybe? Does carbon released cause weather change? The short answer is yes. Look to weather graphs from world war one and two and you will see the winters were more extreme. Even on to The Great Smog of London in 1952, was a severe weather event that affected the British capital in December 1952. Was it part of climate change? And early warning? Today, we blame it on a host of issues from the use of coal burning to other smog related issues.  Was this a sign of things to come? The real answer is, we don’t know. Having said that, does that mean we are unable to agree on anything?

Here are some things I think both the denier and climate change people might agree on. First the use of pipelines to move oil; this is opposed by environmental group, native groups and a host of other people based on climate change related arguments. Can I deny their arguments yet still oppose the pipeline? The reason is this, the oil is sent to the Houston area for processing for economy of scale. But when the last severe weather event took out that area. We lost 25% of the refining power of North America. Not just Texas but the whole continent. We lose good engineering jobs across North America to relocate them to Texas where those jobs are simply not replaced. More cost savings for big oil but fewer jobs for other regions and other people. Frankly, what idiot allowed for the concentration of refineries in a single location that is prone to sever weather in the first place?

On that topic of oil, what about cleaner cars? In fact, California leads the way on reducing air pollution. We can agree on that, reducing air pollution is a good thing. Again, in their tiresome way, the other side make climate change arguments. I have a really simple one. Cars pollute. I can smell it standing next to a car that is running.  Lots of cars mean lots of smog, means lots of pollution in the air. I don’t need to go to 20 years from now, when it makes my eyes burn and my throat close right now. And I don’t even need to go any farther than that in order to support more environmental friendly cars. Not to mention the skyline of LA has improved by reducing the smog so much over the last 50 years such that you can see the difference in a before and after picture.

Last thing, Solar panels: by increase research on them and production to lower costs and increase their efficiency such that we can generate whole cities that are energy neutral, we are saving people money, we are saving ourselves one less bill to pay each month and we have it for free. Just like geothermal energy, wind turbines, (sorry birds!) and even the use of incoming waves energy can all be of use to increase our ability to not use coal or oil to power our society. I think this is a good in itself, but geopolitical reasons, it will reduce the power of the Gulf States and then reduce their footprint in world affairs by way of terrorism. Not surprising that the Gulf States and oil money are linked to so many different terrorist factions and groups. They have all that oil money, and nowhere to spend it. The ability to deny them our money that they in turn use to hurt us is always a good thing. I don’t even have to glance at the two word answer of climate change.

My other point, no necessarily on topic, but related. Have you ever noticed the voice of true believer; Allah wills it, In God’s time? The reliance upon the will of god to answer all questions; “Why did this happen? God made it so.” It’s a one word answer. Blame it on god. The climate change side tends to do the same thing and blame everything on climate change. Showing, yet again, they are simply a religion and not science at all.

Recent, in an ill advised decision bordering on racism, the USA under President Donald Trump rescinded DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals; a program for children who through no fault of their own, were brought into the USA illegally. Instead of offering them a path to citizenship, after, they have lived and were educated in the USA; they have been constantly belittled, degenerated and treated worse than criminals. It is time for Canada to stand up and welcome these people to our shores. Immediate open our immigration to fast track those children of DACA into Canada to be given landed immigrant status and a path to citizenship in 5 years. We welcomed the Syrian refuges on nothing more than knowing that we were doing the right thing. In this case, it is not even a hard concept. They grew up on hotdogs and Baseball. Let’s introduce them to poutine, hockey, health care and being welcomed into a society that not only has open arms, but is will to accept them for who they are. These people are all hard working, holding jobs, educated within the USA to American standards and accustom to the same culture that we Canadians have. They are in fact, our cousins.  And they are in need. There are potentially 800 000 or more Americans who through no fault of their own will be deported under President Trump’s decree. Let’s offer all of them a new home, a new lease on life and a family that is more than willing to accept them!

The arguments, aside for simply being the right thing to do, include economic spin offs, a young, willing work force and the resulting loyalty of these people. Shunned by the USA, they found a new home here that they might feel gratitude for helping? All of these reasons and more argue for Canada to immediately open our doors and offer a trial program to allow Americans who qualify for DACA to become citizens here in Canada.

I urge you in the strongest possible terms to consider such a program that will offer to DACA children a new home in Canada because it is the right thing to do.

Ok so I know this girl, lady, very pretty and black. You can tell this is going to play a part of the story. She works for the post office and was delivering a package to a depot in a pharmacy. No parking, so she pulls into the handicapped space. Ok, so she was in the wrong there. But you get a cop to give her a ticket. What happened next is a lot worse. The manager comes out and words were exchanged. Basically he yelled at her and called her names along the lines of her being black and a woman. She is from the islands, so she stood her ground. How dare she, a woman of colour tell a white man to mind his own business and leave her alone? So in Trump’s America, you do what white overlords have done to all blacks for centuries and he hit her. He punched her down to the ground. Beat her like a dog. All of this criminal activity for a parking space that would have been emptied in a minute. Cops are called, reports are taken and charges laid etc.
End of story? Nope.
Next day, her boyfriend returns to the place to hunts this guy down and stabs him repeatedly. He was reported to brandish a knife and was calling for this guy by name. That guy may still die. He is still listed in critical condition a week later.
Poor lady right? Knowing her boyfriend just stabbed a man. You got to feel bad for her. But this story is not over yet! And it gets even worse…
The boyfriend goes home. Realizes what he has done and kills himself. Police found his body later on that night when looking to arrest him for the stabbing. My heart just goes out to this lady all for parking in a handicapped spot. The doctrine of unintended consequences comes home in a horror story that she gets to live with the rest of her life.
Wow, when I heard this today and my mind has been blown ever since. You hear about crime in the big city but never expect to know anyone involved. I live in a huge city and for such a huge place, I know way too many crime stories.
I was working at a call center when the son of a fellow worker went missing. He was a part time drug dealer. They killed him for his cocaine to steal it and use it. They then cut the body into pieces. They were spotted moving bags of body parts to be disposed of. When the cops arrived, the guy moving the body parts tried to run off. He is now serving life without parole. But can you imagine? This is like a bad plot on TV only I know it happened! I went to his funeral. It can be just nuts out there.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people suffering in Texas and other places as Hurricane Harvey continues its devastation along the Gulf and inland.

This is the worst storm ever in the USA, dumping the most rain in a single event ever, because when the oceans heat up, it allows for moisture and water to funnel into such a storm and to be brought inland where it is discharged in the rain fall. Scientists have called this storm to be a once in “500 years” storm. Neil DeGrasse Tyson has been attacking climate change deniers over this very storm, as if to say in the face of this raging maelstrom, how can you deny that this is the work of climate change. To be clear, he is referring to manmade climate change and not simply the change that occurs over geological time as the continents move. So how can you deny it?

Let me count the ways.

Worst storm since records have been kept? Just how long have they been kept? In fact, how long have we had rain records for that area? One hundred years? One hundred and fifty years? Not to bother wondering about those oldest of records being more interpretive dance than science. What was the rain dump on the last “500 year event?” Oh wait, we have no idea. No accurate records exist. So we really cannot say just how bad this present storm is compared to what it was the last time something this strong hit. Let alone the time before that and the time before that. In fact, if I were to open a window in Houston right now, I would be as fully informed as the Man Made Climate Change advocates. My sole advantage would be, I would know I was all wet and not have any need to pretend I was walk between the rain drops of reason and science.

Next, over the last hundred years, people have been building homes, and landscaping the natural environment to shape it to their liking. This includes dams and changing river patterns. Also includes building homes in lower lying land that is prone to such flooding. The thought being that since a bad storm only comes once in 500 years, the builder and home owner will be long dead and this will be someone else’s problem. But “Shhh” don’t tell the climate change groupies that personal responsibility should be a focus. Instead let them spout off on their poor science of climate change that lays the blame on everyone, so no one actually has to do anything.

One great model, predicted that the rains would either increase by 200% or decrease by 100%. This so called scientific model and it claims to be evidence of climate change? So they ignore this silly prediction and point to an increase in total rainfall instead. So you ignore the parts that are stupid but hype the parts that might agree with you? And yet demand that all people accept you are the scientist? The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change certainly thinks so. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_0TCrGtTEQM) Total storms will drop, they say, because I thought that those would increase with a warming ocean. No, they predict, just the severity of them. This makes even less sense. Why? Could it be that their modelling is crap? “Shhh,” don’t disturb them as they admire themselves in the mirror.

How about instead of pointing to an as yet improvable theory of manmade climate change, where there is essentially nothing that can be done. Let’s stop point those fingers at imaginary demons and things that go bump in the night. Let us organize and get people moving for real environmental protection, strong protection for homeowners that their houses are not being built in low-lying land that would be prone to flooding. Require any house to be so built, be at least 8 feet off the ground. Demand that any new house come with solar panels, and wind turbines to keep some power in the house when the electrical grid goes down. Make a commitment that all government offices to be energy neutral by 2025 and any new facilities comply immediately with this directive. That all house presently being built also be energy neutral and have a goal of retrofitting all previous housing to be neutral by 2050. That all new housing being built, has to pass tests for low-lying danger and other effects of natural disasters such as flooding. See this is real change. That might be more helpful at protecting people then loud finger point at imaginary problems.

Houston is a tragedy. The suffering is unimaginable. Neil DeGrasse Tyson is a great scientist normally, but he has missed the ball on climate change or rather on Man Made Climate Change. There are real things we can do to fix and find solutions to avoid future horrors. First, let’s point the finger at the real issue, not some unproven religious idea that made not have any real evidence for hundreds of year such that our climate models don’t even work at make any sort of usable prediction, a 300 % range is not a prediction, it’s a wild ass guess. Real change can be had now. The problem is you have deal with the garbage and pseudo science of this religious movement call Man Made Climate Change. Let’s commit to real change not setting up false straw men that the Alt Right and their Neo Nazi allies can simply knock with a puff of air, that even someone as stupid as Small Hand Donald could come up with a more plausible theory then Man Made Climate Change.

Montreal is an island, and like all modern cities, people live on either shore. To get into Montreal they need to use bridges. One such bridge is the Victoria Bridge, named after the queen; this covered railroad bridge was built near 150 years ago. Only much later were wings attached to the side to allow cars to drive into Montreal as well. In the morning and evening rush hour, to expedite traffic, the bridge only allows for one way traffic. What is unique is that this bridge is also over a working lock. As this is the rapids in the river, ship traffic come to the lock to raised or lowered to the other side to continue their journey. So on occasion, people must wait as they close the bridge and stop traffic to one end or the other in order to raise or lower the bridge that allows for a ship to enter or leave on their journey.
One morning as I was driving into work, I noticed there were no cars following me. Nor was there any on the other side. There were still cars ahead of me but none behind. I was the last person out. Whatever had happened to shore was behind me. Like the last fleeing refugee, I was alone. Hard a Zombie hoard struck and killed the cars behind? Were they taken by an invading land force? Did they fall victim of a terrorist attack?
The trip was eerie as I would contently look behind me, seeking some sort of human existence to acknowledge where I had been and that, yes, it still existed. All that I had known, all that I knew, All that I had existed with were now gone. In a blink of an eye, I was the last man standing, well driving across that bridge. Unease overwhelmed me, disquiet surrounded my soul. What was it like to be that last one? Knowing all that behind you was lost. Gone. For whatever reason unable to escape, unable to continue on in their journey. Lost, trapped, would they be forgotten, or was I their only hope to spread the word of the disaster that befell the south side of Montreal’s shore line? Deep thoughts, heavy thinking, perhaps even threatening to over whelm me on my early morning journey.
Even as I pieced together, that I had simple been the last car to get ahead of the red light that stopped the rest from crossing the bridge so they could change the configuration to allow a ship entry into the lock. A simple, factual even empirical explanation, that even as my head laughed off my excess and mental indulgence into fantasy and fiction, my heart still beat that much faster as I pondered this very question, “What if I was the last man out of there?” What if indeed.

Robert Mueller just did an end run around Small Hand Donald’s pardon of criminal Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

First the facts, as president, Donald J. Trump, old small hands himself, using those tiny paws pardon former Sheriff Joe Arpaio. Sheriff Joe would arrest anyone who is brown on suspicion of something. Being brown is apparently a crime in his law books. He would then dress them in pink and force them to work and live in a tent city the Arizona heat. Guilty or not he would put them to work. He was found guilty of criminal contempt of court, when Small Hand Donald put his little paws into the picture. The thinking is that he was being clever to tell his former conspirators, look at me I can pardon you from jail. As if his right, as President he has the absolute right to pardon anyone for any reason, at any time for any Federal crime. Justice Department guidelines do not trump, (sorry, I could not resist.) they do not trump, Trump’s prerogative as president to do as he would and pardon where he would like. Like a child, cooked up in the child like mind of a fool, he figures this is his best gambit to date. Yet without anyone in his surroundings to explain just how dumb this move is. First, for Sheriff Joe, who wants to clear his name, he has failed. By accepting the pardon, it is an admission that he is guilty of the crime. Or so says SCOTUS (Supreme Court of The United States). He can never clear his name as no federal court will hear his case once the pardon is granted. The question of guilt is settles. After all, he accepted a pardon and a pardon is only used to free the guilty. Never the innocent who by trusting the justice system know they will be set free in their appeals. If Sheriff Joe had allowed the justice system to work, he might have been cleared by that very system, not likely, or rather not a snow ball chance in the sun of an Arizona summer at high noon! What might have been is now he won’t be. End of story. Faustian gift, giveth the President to his loyal followers.

Now back to Mueller, as if he did not know that Trump would use the power, by pardoning Sheriff Joe, Trump showed his hand to Mueller. Mueller, showing he is light years ahead of small hand Donald, had already considered the Presidential pardon power and actually understood what it said. Small Hand Donald can pardon for Federal Crimes, not state crimes. So working hand in hand with a State Attorney, they will level both Federal and State criminal charges. Have different sovereignty, they face no double jeopardy. Small Hand Donald can pardon only one set of crimes, the federal ones, not the state. So all those people who, like in a drug investigation, where you flip the low people to turn on the higher until you hit on a conviction of Mister Big, big in a metaphorical sense, his hands are freakishly tiny, you nail the President for high crimes and have congress impeach him. Then just to make sure he goes to jail, have the local state criminal courts send him to jail for state crimes. It is not the big house, federal prison, but 50 years in Attica will see Trump end up where he clearly deserves to be in, a cell four by four, the rest of his life.

You are going to jail Donald Trump, the best course of action now is to pardon yourself and family and then resign because the people you have offended in your short stay are fighting back. Unlike you, who claim to be “kind of smart”, these people are very smart. Smarter than your mob lawyers, smarter than your Neo Nazi allies and smart by a wide margin then you. Your days are numbered as President. Do something good for once in your racist life and resign. Today.

What to do about North Korea and its missile testing, nuclear bomb testing, childish tantrums and other assorted offensive against the world. After the recent launch of a cruise missile over Japan, it has become increasingly clear that something must be done. The answer however is anything but. Some facts to keep in mind, at present, the Hermit Kingdom, can attack Japan, Taiwan and South Korea, thus putting, literally, millions of people’s lives at stake. So what can be done that won’t cost anyone their lives?  The first thing to understand is this, the issue is not a hatred of China, Korea, or anyone involved. The millions of North Koreans are also hostages as much as Seoul, South Korea or Tokyo, Japan. It makes no sense to start a war of annihilation against them as well. SO then war is out. But North Korea’s launch of a missile over Japan was an act of war in and of itself. This can no longer be ignored.  War is here whether we want it or not. The question then is who we can get to not want it that can in turn help us deal with North Korea and its leader, Kim Jong Un. See with him dead and perhaps a less fanatic person in charge, and then we might be able to negotiate a deal with them to lower tensions and reduce the chance of a war, at the same time eliminating their ICBM and nuclear warhead research. So who then can we get to do such a thing, to alter the leadership of North Korea and not be attacked in return? And that points to China who has been protecting the family of Kim for the last three generations. All the while the Kim’s have been getting worse and worse in the unstable monster that kills his own half brother with neurotoxins and has his uncle blown apart by cannon. What a dear sweet leader that he is.

We must immediately convene a conference with the world leaders who might be involved. Be sure to invite both China and North Korea for a ring side seat.  We asked for solutions both diplomatically and militarily.  And then we offer as out solution to escalate the matter by arming out allies with their own nuclear deterrence’s. This would mean installing ICBMS in South Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand to make sure China gets the message, our medium is that we offer them, nuclear ICBMs to Taiwan, who is a potential future military target of the middle Kingdom. Arming their rebel province in any way usually pisses off the leadership of China. The message therein such installations would be very clear to China. We don’t like what North Korea is doing. China does not like what we are doing. They, the Chinese leadership can do something to stop it. Or we will take unilateral actions that they won’t like very much either.

Having their border surrounded by countries with advanced nuclear weapons aimed not at them but in their general direction would be as unacceptable to them as leaving North Korea in place. The result is this. Someone needs to end the government of Kim Jong Un with extreme prejudice. Then install a new leader, perhaps someone not inbreed as Kim is and who is willing to talk. Opening doors with diplomatic bargaining is always so much better then with threats. The reason why Kim is trying to make a nuclear ICBN is to protect his fiefdom. Instead, by making those weapons he has sealed his doom.

Or should we be speaking of a rat’s flea? It is clear that when a ship of yore made of wood would start to sink the rats would flee in droves, knowing the ship was going down and they having no way to stop it sought new homes. To wit, Steve Bannon, he was fired from his job at the White House why? Ostensively because he called up a left leaning progressive reporter and gave an interview that was on the record. We need to stop and uncouple that. Bannon could have called his Alma matter Breitbart and spoke with them. He could have called any other reporter or service or newspaper. Not to mention TV, cable, blogs and all over social media. So why a left leaning progressive reporter? In order to get the most exposure, the biggest splash, the biggest headline. He wanted to show the world his opinions.  And then he contradicted the President, Doll Hand Donald, himself. He had to go. And he went. But not by resigning but by being fired. That is key. He did not turn tail and run. He did not abandon the ship. He was a strong backer of the President who was betrayed by the President who fired him. He engineered this firing and all to be able to say; “Woe is me. I could have stopped this fall of Trump…” But, instead, he was fired instead. One rat indeed had fled a sinking ship.
